Famerlo

How Famerlo works with your calendar

Keep your family's schedule in sync with the calendar app you already use — without leaving Famerlo.

The big picture

Famerlo is your family's central place for activities, events, and schedules. You manage everything through conversation — just tell Famerlo about football practice, a birthday party, or a school event, and it takes care of the rest.

Calendar integration adds one more thing: Famerlo can push those events to your personal calendar (Google Calendar, Outlook, etc.) so they show up alongside your other appointments. Each family member can connect their own calendar — even if everyone in the family uses a different app.

How it works

  1. Connect your calendar. In Famerlo, go to your profile and choose "Connect calendar." You will be redirected to your calendar provider (e.g. Google) to grant Famerlo permission. You are always in control of what you authorize.
  2. Choose which calendar to use. Famerlo lists your available calendars and lets you pick where family events should appear. You might choose your main calendar or create a dedicated "Family" calendar — it's up to you.
  3. Famerlo syncs your events. When you create, update, or cancel a family event in Famerlo, the change is automatically pushed to your connected calendar. No extra steps needed.
  4. Conflict detection. Famerlo can read your calendar to spot scheduling conflicts — for example, if you try to schedule swimming lessons at the same time as a dentist appointment that is already on your calendar.

Famerlo is the source of truth

Family events live in Famerlo. Your connected calendar receives a copy. This means:

  • Changes go one way — from Famerlo to your calendar. If you move or edit an event directly in Google Calendar or Outlook, Famerlo will not see that change. Always manage family events through Famerlo to keep things in sync.
  • Each family member syncs independently. If both parents connect their calendars, both get copies of the family events. Dad's Google Calendar and Mum's Outlook calendar both stay up to date.
  • Famerlo works without a calendar. Calendar sync is optional. Everything in Famerlo works perfectly without it — syncing is just a convenience for people who like having events on their phone's calendar too.

What permissions does Famerlo need?

When you connect a calendar, Famerlo asks for specific permissions. Here is exactly what each one does:

Permission What it's used for
View and edit events Create family events, update them when details change, and remove them when cancelled
View events (read-only) Read your existing events to detect scheduling conflicts
View calendar list Show you which calendars you have so you can pick where family events should go

Famerlo does not access your contacts, email, files, or any other data — only your calendar.

Apple Calendar (iCloud) Planned

More calendar providers will be added over time. Because Famerlo uses a provider-independent design internally, adding new calendars does not affect how you use the app.

Disconnecting your calendar

You can disconnect your calendar at any time from your Famerlo profile settings. When you disconnect:

  • Famerlo immediately stops syncing events to your calendar.
  • Events already in your calendar remain there — you can delete them from your calendar app if you wish.
  • Your family events in Famerlo are not affected.

You can also revoke Famerlo's access from your calendar provider's settings (e.g. Google Account → Security → Third-party apps).

Privacy and your data

When Famerlo syncs an event to your external calendar, that copy of the event is stored by the calendar provider (Google, Microsoft, etc.) under their own privacy policy. Famerlo has no control over data held by third-party calendar providers.
